Cafe Gitane Shop was created from the core of the iconic Cafe Gitane, that was established in 1994 in Nolita, New York City. The unmistakable, colorful, bold, vintage vibe, as well as the community are the inspiration for timeless apparel and lifestyle pieces. Whether you have been eating Avocado toast and Couscous at Cafe Gitane for over 25 years, or you have never been to Mott Street, with your purchase in our shop, you are a part of our community.

 

Our team designs and develops each piece in Downtown New York, with an emphasis on eco-friendly materials and local, cruelty free production. We use only natural materials, as recent studies have shown that synthetic fabrics and the fibers they release during each wash cycle are the main cause of microplastics that pollute the oceans, and the CO2 emissions for polyester clothing are nearly three times higher than those for cotton! We also take into account that at the end of the garment's life cycle (although we would love for you to wear our clothes forever) natural fibers are readily biodegradable, which is why we minimize the use of hardware and trims. We us non-toxic, water-based inks, which are completely PVC free and as environmentally-responsible as you can get in this industry. We encourage you to recycle our packaging.
