CHRIS FEREBEE x CAFE GITANE

The first artist to collaborate with us on the Limited Edition Tees is Chris Ferebee. He has a long history with Cafe Gitane, after meeting the owner back in the 90s, when he was selling his art on the Prince Street Market (which was not really an official market back then).

Get to know Chris:

Are you more of a hunter or a gatherer?
Chris: Well, both. Being into collecting things - mid-century / vintage type stuff - I hunt AND gather. :)

If you could only see everything in shades and tones of one color for the rest of your life. Which color would that be?
Chris: That's tough! I've always been a fan of the blue/blue-green spectrum, so maybe shades of blues? But I'd probably say if it can only be one tonal range I'd ditch everything and go with black, white & grays. That way at least it would seem like you're in an old black & white movie all the time.

What was the last gift you gave someone?
Chris: The gift of laughter. I fell UP the stairs the other day and someone laughed at me. haha! No, the last gift I gave someone was to my brother for his birthday last month - a really cool vintage all-stainless steel & chrome miniature movie camera, probably from the 1940's. Just a super cool little design object.

Describe the color yellow to somebody who is blind.
Chris: I'd take them outside and let them feel the warmth of the sun, tell them that's what Yellow is.

If you were a dessert, what dessert would you be?
Chris: Haha! I was going to say something really cheeky. I dunno, something that's simple, classic and a little bit decadent, maybe some nice high-end Swiss chocolate...dipped into some Jif peanut butter :)

If you could have a dinner with any two people from history, dead or alive, who would you choose?
Chris: C. S. Lewis and...Jerry Lewis. I dunno, lots to choose from...

Sushi or Burger?
Chris: I could totally live on sushi, but a killer hamburger on the grill once in a while is a must. If I had to choose, though, probably sushi. ...I think.

If you could only choose one song to play every time you walked into a room for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Chris: The synth and slap-bass heavy portion of the Seinfeld theme? haha No, probably something ambient/instrumental that would age well and not get annoying. Brian Eno, or something from post-punk instrumental band Durutti Column or Dif Juz.

What was your inspiration for the Cafe Gitane Limited Edition Tee?
Chris: My general love for vintage imagery and abstraction/mystery, something slightly surreal and sensual.
